We're looking for an experienced Commercial Lawyer to join our team and work alongside our General Counsel & Company Secretary. This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercially minded legal professional who enjoys partnering with the business, influencing strategic decisions and working across a diverse range of corporate and commercial matters.

This is not a traditional in-house legal role focused on claims or disputes. Instead, you'll play a key role in supporting commercial transactions such as acquisitions and joint ventures, drafting and negotiating third party contracts, supporting governance initiatives and the continued development of our legal function.

About the role

Reporting directly to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, you'll provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across Pacific and its affiliated businesses. Unlike a lot of other roles, you will have direct engagement with senior leaders and stakeholders to draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements and strategic business initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships and other corporate transactions.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts such as binder agreements, SaaS, loan and licencing contracts and variations.
• Advising stakeholders on commercial legal risks and practical business solutions.
• Assisting with governance and company secretarial activities, including Board and regulatory documentation.
• Monitoring regulatory developments impacting commercial contracting and governance.
• Developing legal templates, standard clauses and negotiation playbooks.
• Delivering legal guidance and education to business stakeholders to improve legal awareness across the organisation.

About you

We're looking for an experienced commercial lawyer who enjoys building trusted relationships and delivering pragmatic legal advice that enables business success.

You'll bring:

• Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner with a current practising certificate.
• Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent).
• Approximately 5–8 years' post-qualification experience in commercial law.
• Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Excellent legal drafting, communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong commercial judgement with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial outcomes.
• A collaborative approach and confidence working with stakeholders across all levels of the business.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Highly regarded

Experience in one or more of the following will be highly regarded:

• In-house legal experience.
• Financial services or insurance.
• Corporate transactions including acquisitions and joint ventures.
• APRA prudential standards including CPS 230 and CPS 234.
• Company secretarial or corporate governance support.
• Development of legal templates, precedents or training materials.
